Designer Showhouse? “Yes, yes, yes!” was the answer we gave, in unison, without a second’s hesitation when the Editor of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles invited us to participate in the 2017 Southeastern Designer Showhouse & Gardens. We have a few Show Houses under our belts and each one of them has been a wonderful (if ever so gently nail biting) experience and we’ve loved getting to know, and admiring the work of, the other designers involved in the process.
We knew this one would be a winner from the start. Why? Because of the other interior designers, 25 industry leading talents from all over the Southeast, because of the house itself, which is a perfect blend of historic masterpiece with modern design in a breathtaking environment (wait ’til you see it!), and because of the exquisite veranda we were given, which was like a dream come true for us. We fell madly in love with the house the first time we visited it, and from then on, the design for the veranda just flowed naturally.
Our biggest inspiration came from the breathtaking view. We can’t share the photos yet, and we wouldn’t want to spoil it for you anyway, but something about the lush verdant landscape, and the pretty juxtaposition of spring flowers had us seeing pink before we even put pen to paper. We knew this would be a happy place.
As almost always for us, our design started with a painting … and grew from there.
By the way, both of these design firms, Tracery and Gordon Dunning designers, Lathem Gordon and Cate Dunning have exquisite rooms at this year’s house, along with the following list of esteemed group of designers. Here’s what Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles says about this year’s Showhouse:
“The 2017 Southeastern Designer Showhouse & Gardens, produced by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, will bring together designers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Virginia. With Honorary Chair Jackye Lanham at the helm, the home will feature the talents and creativity of 25 designers from the southeast.
Reimagined spaces and a seamless bridge between past and present are part of the vision for the 2017 Southeastern Designer Showhouse & Gardens. A classic 1960s estate in Buckhead’s Kingswood neighborhood will be transformed into a livable treasure for the current homeowners.”
We are kind of sworn to secrecy about the details of our rooms until the house officially opens so you’ll just have to trust us : You won’t want to miss this Showhouse! It opens on Thursday, April 20th, at 10 a.m. and runs until Mother’s Day, May 14th, at 4 p.m. You can visit Thursdays through Saturdays, from 10 to 4, and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This one benefits the Atlanta History Center, so it’s another great reason to go.
We’re selling tickets at Huff Harrington Home, and we’re open 10 to 6 Monday through Friday, and 10 to 5 on Saturdays. It’s an easy drive from the store, so we’re happy to give you directions or you can go on your own to 3740 Paces Vallery Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30327.
Before we leave you, here’s one more little snippet from our happy place. We hope you’ll agree that pretty in pink is a happy choice for this exquisite home and veranda.
PS: Our first ever “Works on Paper” show opens at Huff Harrington Fine Art on Friday April 21st, from 6 to 8. Stop by for bubbles and bites … and maybe even a little pink champagne!
