Bonjour, y’all!  Kristy Harvey, a nationally best-selling and Southern-centric author, is coming to Huff Harrington Home for a visit on Monday, April 30th.  Cue the pimento cheese sandwiches and sweet tea because we’re going to spend a lovely afternoon chatting with Kristy about all things Southern and charming.

Accolades for Kristy

Kristy is a girl who, as they say, has it going on.  She’s written four novels: Dear Carolina (Berkley/Penguin Random House, 2015),  Lies and Other Acts of Love (Berkley/Penguin Random House, 2016),  Slightly South of Simple (Gallery/Simon & Schuster, 2017) and its sequel The Secret to Southern Charm, was released on  April 3, 2018 and is already a big hit.

The Secret to Southern Charm

The accolades have been pouring in for Kristy: Dear Carolina was long-listed for the Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize, has been optioned for film and has appeared on numerous “must-read” lists. Lies and Other Acts of Love was a Romantic Times top pick, a Southern Booksellers Okra Pick and a finalist for the Southern Book Prize. Slightly South of Simple was a Southern Bestseller, a Barnes & Noble Bestseller, one of PopSugar’s picks for “Ultimate Summer Reading” and one of Glitter Guide’s “Must-Reads for April.”

And she blogs, too!

Oh wait. Did we mention that this simply adorable and gorgeous gal also blogs with her mom, Beth Woodson, daily on Design Chic?  And that the blog (which is daily inspiration for the HHH gals) is an inaugural member of Traditional Home’s design blogger Hall of Fame?

There’s more and yes, it gets better.  Kristy is not only a fabulous novelist but also a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s school of journalism and holds a master’s in English from East Carolina University. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications and websites, including Southern Living, Traditional Home, Parade, USA Today, Domino, Our State and O. Henry. She has been seen in Women’s Health, The Washington Post, US News and World Report, The Huffington Post, USA Today’s Happy Every After, Marie Claire’s The Fix, Woman’s World, Readers’ Digest and North Carolina Bookwatch, among others.

Phew.  No pressure here. We can’t wait to welcome Kristy to Huff Harrington Home where we’ll spend time chatting with her about her writing and her books and also all the things that make life in the South so live-able, like gorgeous design, gracious entertaining and old traditions that have been given a 21st-century spin.

Books about life in the South

Kristy’s books revolve around life in the South and that includes everything from early morning coffee on the porch, sweet iced tea, monogrammed family silver and pressed linen napkins and flowers, flowers, flowers everywhere.

And an inviting porch is a must.

When good writing, fiction and interior design meet

Being the design junkies we are, it’s always fun when a good book marries interior design, good writing and fiction – and Kristy has not let us down here.  Design is an integral part of The Secret to Southern Charm.  We love Ansley, the protagonist.   Ansley’s a designer who runs a little studio/retail space.  No spoilers here, but she ends up with her dream project that involves her grandmother’s house – and her love-interest.

Kristy gives some great design descriptions and along the way, you can just picture Ansley’s mind spinning as she creates beautiful spaces.  After getting to know Ansley’s personality, we imagine she loves light, clean and classic interiors, like this:

Ansley Ghegan did this beautiful bedroom. The airy, bright and neutral aesthetic reminds us of Kristy’s The Secret to Southern Charm protagonist, Ansley. (Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles and photos by Sarah Dorio.)

Ansley might also go for something like this – after all, she has exquisite taste.  This room is by Melanie Turner. (photo by Mali Azima, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles)

Kristy recently posted a fun blog about the project and what the fictional house, now occupied by Ansley’s love-interest Jack,  might look like. And it’s pretty darn fabulous. Take a look:

We hope you can join us on April 30th from 1 – 3 p.m. as we give Kristy a nice, warm welcome.  We can’t wait chat about her new book – and about all the things that make Southern living so wonderfully appealing to all of us.

See y’all there!

Ta ta.
