Hi readers, Emily here! I am a “Huffington” in charge of marketing goings on here at Huff Harrington. I am also fairly new to married life and being a homeowner. As you can imagine, I am very fortunate to have a fabulous workplace to be able to shop from for our abode. Below, I’m sharing the 5 most impactful decor purchases from Huff Harrington that make our little maison truly feel like home. I often consult with our wonderful HH designer, Sam Jones, who has helped me make my unabashedly traditional with a dash of Palm Beach style come to life.
About our nest: my husband and I had one big “must” when house hunting; location! The other wants were just icing on the favorite neighborhood cake, and believe me we weren’t very picky: cute curb appeal, great bones, high ceilings and a large lot for future add-ons. I’ve had so much fun zhushing the inside of our 1940’s fixer upper with old, new and inherited pieces and here are my favorite Huff Harrington additions to it:
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Ann, Meg and Sam it’s that a pretty chandelier makes the room! Our dining room is the first thing you see as you enter the front door so a beautiful statement was a must. I chose a dainty antique crystal and gold number to replace the previously hanging builder grade fixture right away and oh what a fabulous difference it made! It perfectly compliments the Williamsburg blue lacquered breakfront I snagged from Parker Kennedy‘s Traditional Home Southern Style Now showhouse space. The vintage Kindel dining table it’s hanging over was a lucky find at Scott’s Antique Market we purchased for $300. It’s all about the mix!
In the living room, I opted for a Currey & Co. Bangle Floor Lamp. It’s gorgeous, goes with any decor and provides plenty of light. It’s no wonder the Bangle Lamp is such a hot seller at HHH! The framed intaglios were another Scott’s Antique Market score.
Jute Patterned Rug
My husband’s biggest request was a large rug in the main living area, it must be a male penchant to want soft surfaces underfoot! I chose a fabulous Surya blue and cream jute number in a 9” x 12” size. I can attest that it has withstood red wine spills, grass stains and a bevy of other dirt disasters brought on by our puppy, Wally. It looks beautiful and I can count on it for easy care. (Just use Nature’s Miracle for spills and stains as recommended by Joni of Cote de Texas!)
Coffee Table & Cocktail Tables
Every house, no matter its size, needs plenty of surfaces in the common area. I fell in love with the above Ro Sham Beaux marble and gold beauty the minute we got it in at Huff Harrington Home. Elegant with an edge, it’s the perfect perch for coffee table books, remotes and hor d’ouvres when entertaining. (Side note: it’s heavy enough that it doesn’t budge when unruly feet are rested on it!)
I had one of the darling Worlds Away Cocktail Tables in my bachelorette pad and bought another for symmetry in this room when we moved in. They’re the perfect height and size for a drink (or two)! The darling shell fan fireplace screen was bought for a song at My Favorite Place Flea Market off Peachtree Industrial in Chamblee.
As a total art devotee, I had to have plenty of works on the walls and scattered around. I love to mix established artist paintings with works I’ve found while traveling or fresh new pieces I stumble upon from artists on Instagram.
Once I had the big pieces in place, it was time to add the frosting! From books to little antiques and permanent orchids, Huff Harrington Home is my one stop shop for fabulous finds. This is really where you can add personal charm to a room that may have a few mass market items like a dresser or nightstands. Throw in an antique mirror, a clock you inherited or a collection of old books to strike a cool balance.
We’re still chipping away at each room and the front and back yards, but are having so much fun doing it! Do you all have any advice for how to outfit a first home?
