One thing we can always count on when we’re shopping in France for Huff Harrington Home is plenty of gorgeous, monogrammed linens.
We’ve got a couple favorite sources, vendors who know everything there is to know about the uses, styles and monograms of these wonderful old linens. They can tell you in a second whether the bedding set was meant as a wedding gift for a lucky, long-ago couple or whether the set of twelve napkins came from a formal house or a simple cottage in the country. And we’re always stunned by the incredible craftsmanship, attention to detail and sheer love that went into creating these sheets, pillow cases, napkins and towels that we stumble upon.
Back in the day, young ladies would carefully and exquisitely monogram their initials (and if they knew who their intended was to be, they’d incorporate his initials) onto the table and bed linens that were part of their wedding trousseau. Monograms became a sign of wealth and privilege and then as they became more accessible with machinery, the monogram took off as the ultimate symbol of personalization and individuality. Today, monograms are more sophisticated than ever, showing up on table linens, bed linens, pillows, luggage, leather, paper and even glassware. And, the more creative, the better.
We, of course, gravitate to monograms in the home and nothing delights more than some of the creative and beautiful way designers have found to express their creativity:
In the bedroom:
In the living room:
Even a commercial monogram can be instantly recognizable. How doesn’t just love those classic H’s?
In the powder room:
Silver and utensils:
We love how simple and structured a monogram can be – or fanciful and whimsical. The sky is the limit when it comes to creating a monogram.
The take away here is that monograms are always modern, fresh and a wonderful way to stamp your personality and individuality on just about anything in the home. What’s your favorite kind of monogram? If you have your own, we’d love to see it!
P.S: speaking of monogramming, we’re having a Jon Hart trunk show at Huff Harrington Home Friday and Saturday, March 22 – 23rd from 11 to 5. Swing by for personalized wedding, graduation and Mother’s Day gifties – all occasions that will be here before we know it!
