I’m sure this never happens to you: It’s 3 a.m., and you can’t sleep. Blame it on the fat glass of red wine you had with dinner or the inexorable ticking of the biological clock, but whatever the cause, you can’t read a book or turn on a light, and you don’t want to toss and turn anymore, so what do you do?
You read a blog! On your cellphone! If you’re lucky, you have lots of favorite blogs saved down. But if you’re like me, you look for inspiration from others, which is just what I did this week with our dream team of Huffingtons, who always have fresh and fun ideas that inspire me at every turn! I asked them for their three top fave blog reads and this is what I got:
theSkimm – for a daily skim of top stories in the news presented as a fun and easily digestible read! A find by my daughter. What a great start-up network these two women have created!
Habitually Chic – for the best photography posts of fabulous places and new finds in Paris combining beautiful people, fashion and history.
Simply Seleta – for her love of white and fresh take on style which always includes a bargain find! Also, for her lifestyle posts of my favorite seaside town.
Love and Lemons—great healthy recipes with lots of crunchy grains, veggies and herbs (and Alva would know, since she is the healthiest eater we know!)
The Enchanted Home—love the style. Beautifully transitional and also relaxed.
The French Tangerine-–love her sense of organizing her life beautifully and her “Frenchiness”
Atlanta Restaurants Scene with John Kessler – All about restaurants, chefs, food and drinks in Atlanta.
La Dolce Vita – Chic, clean and classic designs with European style. (Kind of like you, Barbara!)
5th & State – Exquisite architecture and incredible gardens.
Emily loves The Pink Pagoda – for all things blue & white and gorgeous Palm Beach inspired interiors.
The Glam Pad – for amazing Palm Beach interiors and real estate listings
Peak of Chic – for a history lesson and traditional interior eye candy
My Little Paris – Love this fun little ”What’s going on in Paris” blog that is written in fun little colloquial French! It talks of the newest restos, literature and art openings complete with metro stops and any other helpful advice to get you to your destination
Frog dog Blog– Includes everything Frenchie! Bulldogs that is. Everyone knows I’m obsessed with these yummy little creatures, so I love to see the funny photos and read the stories about Frenchie fanciers in the past and present. Includes helpful tips for all dog breeds too.
Le Blog de la Mechante – Love the girly tone to this blog that whisks you away into an almost fairytale like Paris! Focuses on La vie Parisienne and the local art scene and in French, too!
Cupcakes and Cashmere: a stylish how-to for everyday living. From yummy recipes and genius beauty hacks to chic fashion advice and lessons on hosting a dinner party like a pro. Not to mention her effortlessly fabulous interior design aesthetic. Emily Scuhman has every angle covered!
A Cup of Jo: from glimpses of decorating her chic and trendy Brooklyn pad to her favorite documentaries you didn’t know you were missing, JoAnna Goddard offers a fresh take on all things marvelous with a little mod twist.
Man Repeller: New York City street style at its best. Dubbed “Man Repeller” for her quirky and a la mode fashion sense that men just don’t get, Leandra Medine’s hilarious take on pop culture and high fashion makes for a fun read.
Swoon Worthy – From vignettes to IKEA hacks to all things trending, this blog will suck you into a world of creativity you don’t want to leave. Inspiration galore!
Sarah Sarna (Live the Life You Dream About)– NYC based designer blogs about style, fashion, home décor and inspired living. The latest trends mixed with inspirational interiors, you’re sure to subscribe to this incredible blog.
Apartment Therapy – The before and after transformations of rooms is astounding. I absolutely love seeing a room come to life and this site allows you to jump there and see the transformation in all it’s creativity. (MD, Mac and Emmy actually sent in lots more blogs each, but this editor had to cut. If you want more, though, we’ll be happy to share!)
SOUTH SHORE DECORATING: Always full of inspirational and diverse interiors. Many, many photos in each post that are fresh and haven’t made the ‘blog rounds’ over and over. Every post is like a new favorite magazine spread. Stacy has a great eye for design.
Just as I’m about to hit the publish button, Meg comes “screeching in on two wheels” (her expression!) and says, “What about me? I have some favorite blogs too!” I tell her that I hadn’t asked her because I assumed she had no time to read blogs between writing this one and the cute one she’s doing for Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles for her renovation of “The Nest.” But of course she does!
Meg: As life would have it, I don’t have too much time to read blogs – I’m usually too busy trying to hit “publish” on the Artful Lifestyle (there’s not a better feeling in the world then hitting “publish”!) but there are a couple that tickle my fancy:
Design Indulgence: I love Sherry Hart’s stream-of-consciousness style of writing – very loose and fun, just like you’re chatting with her. And she’s an amazing designer with unlimited creativity and inspiration.
The Enchanted Home: we just started working with the Enchanted Home – and I’m quite enchanted with Tina and her chic-y Long Island vibe.
And I’ve just discovered Une Femme d’un Certain Age which is full of fun little tips (fashion, home, lifestyle) for anyone who’s – uh – of a certain age and loves all things Frenchie. (Really, Meg, you are NOT une femme d’un certain age yet!)
Thank you to our Huffington dream team, and to Meg, for all these great blog ideas. I’m saving them down and ready for my 3 a.m. wake up call! In fact, with all these great blogs to read, who needs sleep?
