The designing divas are at it again! This time, we’re beyond flattered to be included in the drop-dead gorgeous, over-the-top Southeastern Designer Showhouse which is sponsored by Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles. The showhouse, which benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, has a roster of uber-talented designers and opens to the public for oohing and aahing on Saturday, April 23rd.
By the time you read this, we will have put our heads together for the design concept; measured, re-measured and measured one more time for good luck; stepped over endless power cords, dodged the bobcat and ducked under scaffolding while juggling a giant crystal chandelier and two huge boxes of sconces; and finally, bitten our nails to the quick waiting on a last-minute and crucial delivery.
We’re excited about our space which is the entryway of the glorious guesthouse at the back of the property. The guesthouse itself is so pretty and light-filled that we have all decided we could live there happily forever.
We wanted the entryway to set the tone by saying “hello and welcome to this elegant space” so we’re starting with simple and strong statement pieces that will anchor our large-scale art, curated accessories and that magnificent chandy we mentioned. We also have a nice powder room where a gallery wall will take center stage.
Here are some of our fave picks for our space at the Southeastern Designer Showhouse:
It turns out we love designing showhouse spaces. We’re lucky that we have a whole store brimming with antiques, furniture, lighting and accessories – not to mention the gallery. It’s fun to put our heads together with Sam and Martha Douglas and come up with the concept. Then, it’s months of measuring, spec-ing the custom-made pieces, ordering, following up and waiting, waiting and more waiting. When the installation day arrives, our cars are bursting at the seams with all the “let’s-take-it-just-in-case” pieces along with hammers, screwdrivers, tape, fishing line (yes, really!), nails, hooks and just about anything we can think of.
Our first showhouse was last August at the Cashiers Designers Showhouse. We had a guest bedroom that we wanted to reincarnate as a rich, sophisticated, sexy retreat that played off the rustic personality of the house but with plenty of oooh-la-la and Frenchy sass. We painted the walls but left the beams in their natural state for a little contrast. We added a sparkly antique chandy, a huge Louis XVI mirror over the stone fireplace and plenty of edgy but neutral abstracts from the gallery.
The bedside tables were beautiful pieces we found in the south of France, similar to this:
A couple weeks later, we were loading up the cars and heading to Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Serenbe Showhouse. This pretty new home, snuggled among the picturesque woods and lakes at Serenbe, was even more fab once the talented designers were finished with it. We accessorized the industrial-vibed kitchen as well as the grilling porch.
We love putting our designing diva hats on. There’s nothing more satisfying than diving into a beautiful space, adding some glorious art, carefully chosen accessories and show-stopping furniture to put a smile on our faces. And we hope our spot at the Southeastern Designer Showhouse puts a smile on yours. See you there!
