But…back to our latest installment of Wedding Belles. We met Darby Fallon, a delightful and charming young bride-to-be the other day here at the store. Her mother is Nancy Izlar, a talented designer and curator of all things beautiful here in Atlanta and a favorite client with whom we’ve worked for years.
We got to catch up with the chic-y chic mother-daughter pair when they stopped by the store to check out our registry and to take a breath from all the running around that’s required for a wedding these days. We love hearing about proposals, venues, dresses, flowers and honeymoons and Darby was kind enough to share some of her special details with us:
Tell us how you and your fiancé (Jack Clark) met?
Our little love story began in 2013 in a random class at Ole Miss. As Jack and I got to know each other, we discovered we shared not only a hometown, but the same Buckhead street, Broadland Road. We went on our first date in February 2013 and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
How did Jack propose to you? And tell the truth, were you surprised?
We were at Perdido Key (the gorgeous beach where we spent every college summer) and no, I wasn’t expecting it! We went down to the beach before going out to dinner because the weather was so gorgeous. We were holding hands walking and suddenly, he unlinked our hands and got down on one knee and the next thing I knew, it was happening. All I can remember was Jack looking up at me, the ring box being upside down.. .causing me to laugh and cry at the same time. It was such a special day.
We love a quintessential Atlanta wedding! Where are the festivities taking place and how did you decide on the venue?
It is no secret that I am obsessed with Veuve Clicquot. Our engagement party was V.C. themed and was hosted by a close family friend, who wildly enough, lives in my childhood home. This party really kicked off the engagement.
Tell us about the wedding weekend:
There’s a lot going on that weekend! We kick it off with the bridesmaids luncheon at Le Bilboquet, right here in Shops of Buckhead. After the rehearsal at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, we’ll head over to the Cherokee Town Club for cocktails and dinner. The ceremony will be at Peachtree Presbyterian with cocktails in the gardens of the Swan House on Andrews Road. And then we’ll head into the Atlanta History Center’s Grand Overlook Ballroom for dinner and dancing.
We wanted a local venue that was elegant, pretty – and one that could accommodate our big guest list. We both come from large families and we’re expecting a big crowd.
How did you ask your bridesmaids to be part of the big day?
I sent all 10 of my bridesmaids beautiful floral arrangements with a sweet note. I wanted to do something other than the ‘bridesmaid box’.
Let’s talk colors: what’s your vision for flowers, bridesmaid dresses and tablescapes at the reception?
We had the idea of keeping everything very classic with a nod to all things Southern. So, the bridesmaids will be wearing soft blush dresses and carrying blush, green and white flowers. Jack, his father (who is also his best man), as well as the bride’s father, all had custom cream dinner jackets made at H. Stockton. All of the groomsmen are wearing traditional black tuxedos.
The tables have mirrored tops. Tall arrangements with blush, white, cream, and green florals. And the more candles, the better!
Personal touches are always the best. Are there any favorite little details you’re excited about?
Jack and I adopted our two little fur babies, Maddie and Millie, and we had someone paint them in watercolor for the save-the-date invitations. That felt so personal to us.
I believe that the food we have selected to be served at the wedding is very “us”. And I just can’t give away any surprises before the big day!
Has anything about the planning process surprised you?
The most difficult part has been managing the guest list. With both of us coming from large families and having so many friends from Atlanta and from college, we really had to work at it.
And it’s amazing how fast the time has gone. I have been surprised by how quickly our engagement has flown by. One day I was saying “ONE YEAR until the big day!” and now I am down to “ONE MONTH until the big day!”
Has the groom made any special requests for the big day?
Yes! He had the final word in the music selection for the reception. We’re having Yacht Rock, a really fabulous 70s band and we can’t wait! Jack picked out the white vintage Bentley for our get away car!
What is one piece advice for brides-to-be?
Hire a great wedding planner to handle the zillions of details! I interviewed at least a dozen … you want someone that you click with, someone who you’re comfortable around, and obviously someone you can trust! Our planner, Debbie Felker, has gone above and beyond to keep me as stress-free as possible.
Darby, you’re going to be a gorgeous bride and we can’t wait to see all the pictures after you’re Mrs. Jack Clark! Happy wedding day from all of the Huffingtons.
